Latest News Feb. 14, 08 Many of you have been asking for more information concerning the positions the other Commissioners are taking on the issue of the pass. I recently wrote to each of them to let them know I would be posting an article on the Navarre Pass website which would outline each of their positions for the citizens to read for themselves. I asked them all to summarize their view on the Pass and have since received the following replies. Commissioner Cole: “I will stay open to all ideas that are cognizant of the position of funding we have just lost due to Article 1” I have spoken to Commissioner Cole in the recent past about the pass issue and he has told me that he supports the idea but is concerned about how to fund it. He is a levelheaded man and clearly sees the economic benefits of the Pass.
Commissioner Salter: “I have always thought the Navarre Pass would be good for the economy of the County. I support the project as long as it is not detrimental to our military. As you also know, the County is currently going through some financial challenges with two years of revenue reduction. With this in-mind, it would be difficult for the county to have any funds to go toward any studies or other financial request at this time. I do support your efforts to see if the project is feasible. Good luck and let me know if I can further assist.”
Commissioner Broxson: "Thank you for your efforts for this project. During the Navarre Beach Mardi Gras Celebration I had the opportunity to speak with someone with a very responsible position at Hurlburt AFB about the military becoming involved in this effort as a part of the Command's mission. This might be a good time to consult with them on this and attempt to obtain their support. I will be happy also to help get the support of Congressman Miller as well as the Senate members of our Congressional delegation to Washington. I wish you well in this project” |
